Duties and Responsibilities

Automated Assembly Process

  • Process departmental “First Article” approval
  • Create departmental work instructions in detail
  • Hand place difficult components into solder paste as required (SMT)
  • Perform minor program changes as required by job instructions only as instructed
  • Perform minor equipment adjustment, repairs and periodic and monthly maintenance as directed
  • Proficient in profiling the CC infrared drying oven
  • Q.A. Proficient with black light and touch-up
  • Proficient at running characterizations to determine machine performance

Equipment (Operate a minimum of 3 with proficiency required)

  • SMT (solder paste printer, P/P Machines, Reflow Oven)
  • Dip and Axial
  • AOI
  • X-Ray
  • Asymtek 740 and 940
  • Potting  (includes set-up, run and calibrate)
  • Operate Infrared drying oven by setting required parameters

General

  • Work well with fellow assembly employees
  • Follow instructions provided by supervisor
  • Perform other work as assigned
  • Meets or exceeds the required level of quality and quantity results on a consistent basis

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of six (6) months in Machine Operator C position or equivalent experience from previous work background which would qualify under duties and responsiblities
  • Successfully complete the IPC Standards Classroom Training
  • Successfully Completed Component Recognition classroom study
  • Understand floor stock procedure

Job Responsibilities:

Surface Mount Technology Corporation is seeking an experienced Process/Equipment Technician adept at the skills necessary to lead the continuous improvement process as related to machine performance and development efforts in preventative maintenance of high-technology equipment and downtime improvement efforts. Prior work experience with contract circuit board manufacturing is essential. Qualified applicant will support the production group and help identify areas for improvement � the goal being to reduce set-up and process time as well as improve overall quality. As the Process/Equipment Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Provide advanced programming to operate production equipment.
  • Provide scheduled and unscheduled repairs and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Support production, process engineering and quality to assure product specification.
  • Support new technology/equipment implementation.
  • Lead thermo profile development.
  • Define content of and write instructions/procedures for equipment preventative maintenance as required.
  • Lead technical support for operators.

The Process/Equipment Technician will help maintain ISO 9001 certification by being knowledgeable of and following appropriate documents in the Quality Manual as well as other procedures.

Job Requirements:

A.A.S. Degree in Electro-Mechanical Technology or B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred with a minimum of 3 to 5 years work experience within an electronics-manufacturing environment. Preference for CM experience. Exposure to surface mount and solder technology is a must. Familiarity with RoHS compliance. Other responsibilities will include performing root cause analysis of production failures and process escapes. Maintain, upgrade, and enhance equipment and programs to improve efficiency and quality. Participate in cost reduction programs in manufacturing, and continuous improvement programs in quality. Strong computer skills are essential.

Engineering Careers

To successfully lead product development projects from initial customer contact through production introduction.  Will be responsible for defining the scope of work, performing, managing the project team, managing the customer relationship and at times performing design work within field of expertise. Must have a proven track record of electronic product development engineering experience, possess excellent customer relationship skills, be an excellent coach/mentor and have the ability to create and follow a disciplined engineering process.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Coordinates the activity of the project team and the customer to ensure customer satisfaction in regards to SMT performance, project deliverables, schedule and budget.
  2. Serve as the customer’s primary interface for the duration of the engineering project to assure all customer communication happens in a timely and effective manner.
  3. Maintains knowledge and understanding of the SMT product development procedures to ensure compliance with quality procedures and to assure customer satisfaction.
  4. Maintains knowledge and understanding of project contracts including the proposal, Engineering Services Agreement, confidentiality agreements and other agreements that may exist to ensure SMT Engineering, vendors and customers fulfill their contractual obligations.
  5. Maintains technical expertise, and performs engineering design work on projects, within the scope of engineering experience.
  6. Uses product development experience to mentor and coach the team to ensure SMT Engineering delivers solutions that meet customer expectations.
  7. Creates product development project proposal, which includes statement of work, schedule, budget, engineering services agreement and assumptions and responsible for presenting proposal to customer.
  8. Participate in initial customer meetings to present SMT Engineering’s project plan and technical solution in order to win new product development business.
  9. Assist the Director of Engineering with performance appraisals by providing timely feedback regarding team member performance.
  10. Produce an acceptable amount of work in a timely manner.
  11. Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  1. Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent industry experience.
  2. Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience as a lead engineer or project manager in an electronic product development.
  3. Possess a detailed understanding of SMT’s business and product development processes.
  4. Possess good project management and leadership skills.
  5. Possess good oral communication, written communication and presentation skills.
  6. Possess good conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

The Embedded Software Design Engineer will work with a team of talented and dedicated people to develop electronic products for OEMs in industrial, foodservice, computing and medical markets. You will develop embedded software systems including requirements specifications, system design, software design, source code, design verification test plans and documentation. The successful candidate will excel in a high-energy small team environment, be able to create to solutions from rough requirements, have a commitment to high product quality and have the ability to make work fun and interesting.

  • Creates new embedded system software designs, including requirements specifications and system models, and verifies the feasibility of the concept using systems analysis and simulations.
  • Implements and verifies new embedded software systems and embedded software designs including specifications, requirements analysis, design, coding, design verification test specifications and design verification test results.
  • Develop software in assembly language, C, C++, and other languages.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordinate with team members to assure that designs meet system goals.
  • Works with management to present project proposals including the design concept, statement of work, schedule and budget to the customer.
  • Participates in customer and project team meetings to ensure schedule milestones, budget and customer expectations are met.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant discipline and a minimum of 3 years of design engineering experience
  • Experience with C language development and assembly level including the tools used to edit, compile/assemble and debug code in an embedded environment
  • Experience in developing, testing and documenting embedded system code for microcontroller based environments
  • Experience with communication and networking protocols, such as TCP/IP, USB and CANBus
  • Experience working with real-time operating systems such as MQX and uC/OS-II
  • Experience working with wireless system protocols such as Bluetooth, WiFi, and 802.15.4
  • Strong background debugging microcontroller and embedded hardware systems
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience with microcontroller and microprocessor circuits
  • Analog signal conditioning and control system design
  • Power conversion for electronic controls, including
    • AC/DC and DC/DC converters, typically low to medium power
    • Brushless DC motor drives
    • Power supplies and drivers for LED lighting
    • Battery charging and management circuits
  • RF experience is a plus (802.15.4 RFICs, WiFi, Bluethooth, Zigbee)
