Development Project Manager
Welcome to SMT Engineering, LLC! We are a young, growing company that specializes in contract electronic product development and manufacturing, spanning the schedule from concept through production. Our cohesive team services many different industries, with a constant variety of new and interesting projects. We are looking for a creative, confident, technically savvy Project Manager to help lead product development projects.
This position will have the following responsibilities:
- Work with potential customers to identify project opportunities, provide a vision of how SMT can meet their product development needs, and determine project scope.
- Work with engineering resources to create project plans, including work breakdown, labor and materials budgets, and project schedule.
- Write proposals to address customer needs.
- Work with engineering management on scheduling and resource allocation for projects.
- Track project schedule and budget against the plan and manage project scope.
- Manage customer communication with the engineering team.
- Project status reporting to customers and internal management.
- Provide technical project direction and review.
- Work with manufacturing to plan and execute product transitions into production, including identifying manufacturing test strategy.
- Work with accounting on project setup and customer invoicing.
- Determine the optimum use of company resources.
- Expand project management procedures and practices.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Strong knowledge of electronics and embedded microcontroller / DSP design.
- Excellent personal skills with the ability to work easily with others.
- Experience in the electronics or contract design industry.
- Experience developing project plans, quoting projects, and managing project schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
- Management experience with demonstrated leadership, team-building and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility in handling a challenging, multi-tasking workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
In addition, experience or knowledge of the following are desirable:
- PCB layout.
- Embedded C
- Microchip PIC, Texas Instruments MSP430, Freescale ColdFire or other embedded microcontrollers or DSPs
- Programmable logic and/or FPGA design
- EMC testing and troubleshooting
- UL and CE
- Electronics manufacturing

Embedded Software Engineer
Welcome to SMT Engineering, LLC! We are a young, growing company that specializes in contract electronic product development and manufacturing, spanning the schedule from concept through production. We are looking for a creative, confident, technically savvy Embedded Software (Firmware) Engineer to help lead product development projects.
This position will have the following responsibilities:
- Work with potential customers to identify product requirements and potential solutions.
- Develop embedded software product architectures to meet customer product requirements.
- Work with electronic hardware engineers to select the best microcontroller or DSP for the product.
- Design and code software targeted toward embedded microcontrollers or DSPs.
- Using microcontroller specific development tools, build code and load onto development or target boards.
- Integrate the software onto the embedded hardware and perform debug.
- Plan and perform software verification and record the results.
- Work with manufacturing team to determine the best way to program parts in production.
- Develop quality documentation, including product or software requirements, design descriptions, and design verification test plans.
- Work with project management to create project plans and proposals to customers, and to report status.
- Work with engineering management on scheduling and allocation of time for projects.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Experience with software development for embedded microcontroller / DSP design.
- Experience developing software in C.
- Experience with hardware/software interfaces.
- Experience working with other engineering disciplines on cross-functional teams.
- Excellent personal skills with the ability to work easily with others.
- Flexibility in handling a challenging, multi-tasking workload.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
In addition, experience or knowledge of the following are desirable:
- Experience in the electronics or contract design industry.
- Real-time Operating Systems (RTOSs) such as Wind River Virtex or uCOS.
- Assembly language and C++ programming on embedded microcontrollers.
- Microchip PIC, Texas Instruments MSP430, Freescale ColdFire or other embedded microcontrollers or DSPs.
- Design for EMC.

Hardware Design Engineer

We are looking for a creative, confident, technically savvy Electronic Hardware Engineer to help lead product development projects.
This position will have the following responsibilities:
- Work with potential customers to identify product requirements and potential solutions.
- Develop electronic product architectures to meet customer product requirements.
- Design electronic circuitry, including design analysis, component selection, and schematic capture.
- Work with other engineering team to successfully integrate hardware, software, and mechanical designs.
- Work with PCB designer to lay out circuitry on printed circuit boards.
- Create bills of materials and work with lab resources to get prototypes assembled.
- Develop quality documentation, including product or hardware requirements, design descriptions, and design verification test plans.
- Perform design verification, including functional, performance, EMC, and environmental testing.
- Work with manufacturing resources to successfully transition products from design to manufacturing.
- Work with project management to create project plans and proposals to customers, and to report status.
- Work with engineering management on scheduling and allocation of time for projects.

- Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
