Foodservice Wireless Diagnostics

A leading foodservice equipment manufacturer needed a low-cost means of monitoring machines at customer installations in order to track assets, provide operational statistics, and provide remote diagnostics for service.
Off-the-shelf solutions are costly and food service wireless often have subscription costs as well.

SMT Engineering's solution

SMT Engineering worked with the customer to determine the best communication modalities for their market by defining market use cases. By understanding the use cases SMT was able to eliminate expensive cellular (CDMA and GSM) solutions and focus on lower cost Ethernet and WiFi solutions. SMT Engineering provided an end-to-end solution including definition of data Wireless features structures, design of a custom gateway hardware,
creating a server based SQL database and a technician
interface program to display data and diagnostic information.

The Outcome

SMT Engineering delivered the hardware and software for a sophisticated, high quality, end-to-end wireless foodservice machine diagnostic solution in time for a national trade show. SMT Engineering's concurrent design methodology and new product introduction process enabled the customer to launch their new product on schedule and on budget.
