SMT Engineering helped a leader in high performance, tactical flashlights for military and police applications develop a new product. The customer had tried to outsource a design to China,
but the results were disappointing. Light output was low, power consumption was high and battery life was poor. Like many companies, the customer takes advantage of the "virtual engineering department" concept. By maintaining a small stafff of product managers and marketing experts who translate market needs into specifications, the
customer's staff can focus on identifying market needs. Once the customer's in-house team has defined the product requirements, the detailed hardware and software design tasks are outsourced to SMT .

basis. Picking up a project in midstream and holding to an aggressive schedule on a fixed price budget is something few design companies would propose.
